Singing Teacher & Musical Theatre Vocal Coach

Jason  Rees
MA PGCLTHE Dip.GSA FHEA

Hello!

I'm an experienced singing teacher and musical theatre vocal coach with over 30 years teaching and an MA in Voice Pedagogy.

I teach privately both online and face to face in Guildford, Hampton Court and Associated Studios in Latimer Road, London W10 where I also teach on their MA and Diploma Courses.

Over the years I have worked at many of the industry's leading drama and stage schools, including Italia Conti, Guildford School of Acting, Institute of Arts Barcelona, Performance Preparation Academy and Sylvia Young Theatre School.  I'm available as a guest/cover teacher on professional level courses.

My own training began as a performer at the Guildford School of Acting, where I studied singing with Paul Farrington (Technical Singing Coach at Royal Opera House & Estill Vanguard). I was a member of The London Actor's Centre, where I worked with some of the profession's top musical directors and voice experts, including Mary Hammond (Vocal Consultant for Cameron Mackintosh & The Really Useful Group), and Gillyanne Kayes (Author of 'Singing and the Actor').

During my time as a performer, I was lucky enough to gather a wide range of credits which include: ' Seven Brides for Seven Brothers ' at Plymouth Theatre Royal, ' The Fairie Queen ' at the Royal Opera House and European Tour, a workshop of a new opera - ' The Ladies Paradise ' for the RSC, ‘ Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raving Queens ’ at the Tristan Bates Theatre, ' Hamlet ' at the Brixton Shaw, Hansel in ‘ Hansel & Gretel ’ at the Palace Theatre, Westcliffe. I played the title role in ' The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn ' at Theatre Royal Northampton and UK Tour, and originated the role of Louie in the UK premiere of Jez Simons' ' Hard Times Diner ' at the Southwark Playhouse and UK Tour. My concert work includes, ' Sondheim Tonight ' at the Barbican Concert Hall.

I'm a passionate advocate for life-long learning; as well as my Masters in Vocal Pedagogy I continue to attend countless CPD courses and have gained additional qualifications including an FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy) and a PGCLTHE (Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education) from Rose Bruford.

"Jason came and did a three hour singing workshop to support our learners in their summer tour of Loosing It, the Sex Ed Musical, to secondary schools. Singing in school halls and cafeterias is a big challenge. Jason offered great technical advice and strategies and the cast was in better voice for the rehearsal following his session. One student mentioned the next day that he understood tilt better and was able to better support his higher notes."

Suzanne Parke MAVS BA, Leader of Learning
